We ensure students succeed in Design Technology by teaching them key practical life skills needed to support them and others in the future.

We teach our students to use their innovation and creativity to solve problems that are fundamental to the future prosperity and sustainability of society.
We want our students to develop their ability to research and critically analyse existing products, the work of past and contemporary designers that will inform their own creative responses. They will develop and refine their practical skills that allow students to realise their design intentions as they make products and dishes.
Students will learn to enjoy how Design Technology makes essential contributions to the creativity, vulture, wealth and wellbeing of modern society.
Enrichment
Outside of their lessons, students have access to a variety of enrichment activities. These include:
- Design Technology Club
- Cultural capital embedded in the scheme of work
- Access to industry standard software
- Trips and visits
Assessment
Formative assessment, mid-point and end point assessments will take place throughout each year to monitor pupil progress and further inform teaching and learning.

Careers
We make links to careers by providing students with practical skills and knowledge that can prepare them for a wide range of careers, from engineering and manufacturing, to hospitality and catering.
Across all our Design Technology courses, students are explicitly taught about potential career paths and the skills required to succeed in these careers. This can involve guest lectures from industry professionals, work placements and careers fairs.
