Art offers students a medium for expression, provoking thought and curiosity, reflecting culture and enhancing their intellectual and emotional understanding of the world.

Art creates innovative thinkers and problem solvers, stimulating creativity and fostering the practical skills to produce quality artefacts. Art is a remarkable subject to help students make sense of their own lives and identify the lives of others.
Art supports students to develop critical thinking and the ability to interpret the world around them. Students are introduced to a diverse range of artists, countries and cultures to support them in appreciating diversity and inclusion. In their personal projects, students are encouraged to research contemporary practitioners relating to their own chosen themes.
Enrichment
Outside lessons GCSE students can attend period 6 sessions to extend their knowledge and skills and work on their coursework. KS3 students have the opportunity to join after school art club.
We encourage students to visit local art galleries such as the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Hepworth Gallery and Cliffe Castle. We also encourage trips further afield to places like London and Paris.
Assessment
In years 7, 8 and 9, internal assessments will take place throughout each year to monitor pupil progress and further inform teaching and learning.

Careers
Our art curriculum develops a range of employable skills: creativity, self-expression, critical thinking and confidence. We also encourage discussion about careers Art and Design could lead towards.
At KS4, students will create their own progression plan, aiding their understanding of careers and opportunities after school.
