Personal development is how students come to understand who they are and what their strengths and areas for development are. All subjects at Beckfoot Oakbank contribute to students personal development, and from Year 7, students will have an Open Minds lesson which is a blended subject of Personal, Social, Health Education, Relationships and Sex Education, as well as Prevent, British Values and Citizenship Themes. These are all reinforced through our half-termly themes, these are the basis for Assembly and Tutor time sessions which all work together to support all students to stay safe, manage risk, and to ‘open minds.’

Our programme is developed to bring out the best in everyone. During tutor time each day, students will follow a pre-planned scheme of learning which supports everyone in realising their goals, building better habits and developing a strong civic understanding of 21st century Britain. Each week we hold a Votes for School, giving students the opportunity to have their day on important topical issues in Britain today, many of these votes are relayed directly to government departments, local NHS Trusts and other significant organisations.

We aim to challenge our students by using:
- Tutoring and assembly programme (age appropriate)
- Wider learning days and events, for example career education, relationship and sexual health
- Guest speakers
- Curricular trips – subject specific
- Extracurricular clubs
- Student leadership opportunities
- Social action activities and charity work
